Also quite unknown, Macedonia offers a cheap alternative to former Yugoslavia. The rivers are all very beautiful, though I do not know very many. Those shown are a few I have fished, and there is a lot to be explored...again I am greatful for any information.
Radika
This is an absoloutely beautiful river flowing through wooded limestone gorges in western Macedonia near Gostivar. Its pristine waters are best fished Volkovija, where there are some nice hotels along the river where you can also aquire the fishing licence (about 3€). There are good insect hatches and dryflies (CDC duns, sedges) work very good in the evening. The trout have got a good average size.
Kadina Reka
It is not easy to get to this river, the road is very bad. Nevertheless a splendid and untouched little river. My opinion is that it is far more productive, probably because of the untouchedness. The trout are plentiful and have got a rather very good size. Dryflies work very good, especially CDC patterns. The river lies 10km SE of Skopje. You need a 4X4 to get there. Fish around Tisovica. No licence required. Acommodation only in Skopje.
